Introducing Kaneohe Chiropractor Dr. Chip Abbadessa and family

I grew up in a "medicated" family. My dad was a pharmacist and my mom was a nurse. I remember being a "sickly" child, not really wanting to go out and play with the other kids. I remember being on lots of antibiotics and cold medicines. All that changed after my first chiropractic adjustment!
All my life I wanted to be a doctor. I was fascinated with the way the body was "put together" and worked. I wanted to help people get and feel better. I always liked the T.V. shows where the doctor saved the patient against all odds! I would spend hours in the library looking at and reading books on health and the human body. Everyone in my family, including myself thought I would enter medical school after college. All of that changed as I was a student intern at a major New York medical center and I witnessed an "adverse drug reaction". As my teacher/doctor and I were walking down the hall we noticed a terrible commotion. A young girl, only about 16, had been given the wrong drug. She died right in front of us! It was horrible. She took about 10 minutes to die a very painful death. I knew at that time that this was not for me. It wasn't at all like the T.V. shows I was used to seeing as a kid. It was at that time that I decided to look into chiropractic. Chiropractic seemed perfect for what I was looking for. A non-drug non-surgical approach to helping people get well and stay well.
I attended Chaminade High School and upon graduating I went to the State University of New York where I received my Bachelors Degree in Biology. I then attended the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic where I attained my Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1988. It was in Los Angeles that I took my first trip to Hawaii. I knew the moment I stepped off the plane that Hawaii would someday be my home!
My practice philosophy is very simple: the Power that made the body, heals the body. The body was created to run and heal itself through the nervous system. My job as a chiropractic doctor is to remove any interference to that natural process.
I met my wife, Nadine, in 2001. She was from Nanakuli and worked as a Japanese tour coordinator. We married in 2005 and adopted 3 orphaned children from Maui in 2006. Our lives have never been the same since! We really enjoy going to the beach as often as we can. I like playing golf when the time permits. The Ko'olau course is my favorite. I just like being outdoors as often as I can because the Windward side is so beautiful!
My personal approach to health is the same as I tell my patients. I get adjusted at least once per week, I avoid junk food, drugs, antibiotics and vaccinations. I try to get some sort of exercise at least every day. My family is no different. We all try to live a healthy lifestyle and still have lots of fun!
